    That would be in m4/readline.m4 - which uses AC_LIB_LINKFLAGS_BODY.
    While I'm admittedly a dilletante at both autotools and m4, I think getting
    that right isn't simpler than patching up the configure script itself every
    once in while... and that's after giving it a shot, of course :-)
