Today I was trying to bump the version of w3m in the ports tree. It does
work when using the commit hash in DIST_TUPLE, but using the git hash
leads to an error:

Looking at other Makefiles in the ports tree at looks like using the git
hash is possible. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or point me
in the right direction? Thanks!
