Wrapper scripts are being used to set the environment in X11/wayland and
nVidia.

I suspect you will be seeing more of this going forward in CAD software
and G-code slicers.  At the moment, there is a looming deadline for 7.8
ports, but at some point it may be worth while to think about a
recommended way to deal with this going forward.
