    Looking through it, I don't think there are likely to be problems with
    this first diff, but I do think wider arch testing is needed for the
    update/switch diffs.
    
    I'll be able to do an i386 bulk to try it there. Doing that will be
    simpler without juggling the extra "allow working on either 6 or 8"
    patches.
