on first start, went through the detection for some default values.

Then when adding source V4L2 device, I see following:

to force mjpeg, it starts up and doesn't crash anymore.

But then when recording, I end up with black image.

so finally I made some tests with ffmpeg:
ffmpeg -f v4l2 -input_format mjpeg -framerate 30 -video_size 1280x720 -i
/dev/video0 -vcodec copy -f null -
still reported some dropped frames, The next then worked flawlessly:

ffmpeg -f v4l2 -input_format mjpeg -framerate 30 -video_size 960x540 -i
/dev/video0 -vcodec copy -f null -

so I updated the Untitled.json again to:

    "name": "Untitled",
    "sources": [
        {
            "prev_ver": 536936450,
            "name": "Video Capture Device (V4L2)",
            "uuid": "957ef78b-9b9a-47d3-92c5-123261250a5b",
            "id": "v4l2_input",
            "versioned_id": "v4l2_input",
            "settings": {
                "device_id": "/dev/video0",
                "input": 0,
                "pixelformat": 1196444237,
                "resolution": 4123168604700,
                "framerate": 10000000,
                "color_range": 1
            },
            "mixers": 0,
            "sync": 0,
            "flags": 0,
            "volume": 1.0,
            "balance": 0.5,
            "enabled": true,
            "muted": false,
            "push-to-mute": false,
            "push-to-mute-delay": 0,
            "push-to-talk": false,
            "push-to-talk-delay": 0,
            "hotkeys": {},
            "deinterlace_mode": 0,

            "monitoring_type": 0,
            "private_settings": {}
        },

and then obs was able to record the video stream nicely.

just running "video" worked like a charm as well.

attached console output of obs starting up, opening the cameras properties,
and recording a short video.

cheers,
Sebastian
