Hello, Please find attached a patch proposing proper integration of the Codex app-server daemon with the OpenBSD package system. The port already includes the daemon functionality, but upstream normally expects a complete standalone installation and may try to install another Codex executable under ~/.codex/packages. This is unsuitable for a package managed by pkg_add. The proposed changes address this without disabling the daemon or rewriting its lifecycle management. The CLI and app-server already share the same executable. The port now installs it under: /usr/local/libexec/codex/bin/codex with /usr/local/bin/codex as a symlink. It also installs the code-mode host and a codex-package.json manifest containing the package version and native OpenBSD target. The daemon resolver uses this package-owned executable instead of downloading or copying another installation. Version checks ensure that the CLI, manifest and daemon are compatible. The existing upstream functionality remains available, including automatic startup for eligible sessions, process management, Unix sockets, JSON-RPC communication, restart and recovery. Only internal installation and self-update mechanisms are disabled. Updates are handled through pkg_add -u, followed by an explicit daemon restart. The /daemon menu also reflects this behavior. No Node.js, npm, additional daemon executable, rc.d service or separate system user is required. The patch also includes adjustments to reduce Rust/LLVM memory consumption during compilation, along with OpenBSD portability fixes for V8. I tested an installed Codex 0.162.1 package on OpenBSD 8.0-current amd64. The following checks passed: - Daemon start, reuse, version reporting, restart and stop. - WebSocket and JSON-RPC communication over a Unix socket. - Rejection of internal updates without interrupting the daemon. - Correct resolution of the package-owned executable. - No additional daemon package copies under CODEX_HOME. These are real runtime tests, although the installed package was not rebuilt from the attached diff during this test session. Interactive TUI auto-start, authenticated model sessions, the complete test suite and aarch64 remain untested. I believe this provides a maintainable way to support the daemon while preserving OpenBSD's package management model and most of upstream's existing implementation.
