From: UDENIX Subject: Re: flashprog To: ports@openbsd.org Date: Fri, 23 Aug 2024 20:08:48 +0200 The user Anon Loli is requesting a port of flashprog for OpenBSD, likely because the Libreboot project has been using flashprog since January 27, 2024. Flashprog is a fork of flashrom. Regarding Libreboot, I would like to share two important points for everyone's information: 1. To install Libreboot from OpenBSD, you must either boot the system in single-user mode or temporarily set securelevel(7) to insecure mode and reboot the computer in order to use flashprog. 2. I recommend reading this excellent article written by Leah Rowe, which critiques the absurdity of the Free Software Foundation's (FSF) criteria for considering an operating system or piece of hardware as "free." Unfortunately, the article has since been removed from the Libreboot project website, and I am unaware of the reasons for its removal. The article can still be accessed via the Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20240507041617/https://libreboot.org/news/policy.html
