Duh! Thanks for keeping me in check. Seems that ports adds a -O2 -pipe
to the compiler flags. -pipe itself is fine, but -O2 and above seems to
cause instability, so I set CFLAGS & CXXFLAGS to -O1 -pipe, things seem
AOK!
