i wont comment on the change itself but that's definitely a welcome
addition - i've also been using your "magic" and that feels sooo
awkward...

most of my daily.local have:

syspatch -c
pkg_add -Iunm | awk '{ sub(/^.*\r/, "") } 1' | grep -v ^quirks |grep -v ^$
